Football Success for Year 9 Pupils

Reece McLellan (9XB) and Drew Rowley (9XL) were chosen in the Summer by the Deaf Football Association to complete trials. Darrick Wood School has received news that both pupils passed these trials and are now part of the London Region Talent Centre. This is the pathway towards joining the England Deaf Football team in the future. They will also have opportunities to play other regions in this country, other countries abroad and in the Olympics. US Ambassador visits Darrick Wood School

Darrick Wood School was fortunate to have the opportunity to host a visit from the US ambassador to the UK, Mr Matthew Barzun, on September 26th. The ambassador’s motorcade swept up the school drive and out stepped the United State’s top diplomat in the UK accompanied by a phalanx of burly security men that did look like they meant business. Google Expeditions

On Thursday 22nd September Google Expeditions Pioneer Program visited our school armed with 60 headsets to take our students and pupils on a journey with their virtual reality app. We were the fourth school to take part in this new venture. Expeditions is a virtual reality app built for the classroom and has over 200 places of interest to help bring lessons to life. Fantastic GCSE Results for Darrick Wood Students

Year 11 students achieved some of the best GCSE results the School has ever recorded. 82% of the year group achieved A*-C in both English and Mathematics. 27% of all grades were A* or A. Year 10 Medical Day

Last term a group of 15 year 10 pupils attended a Medical Day at Bromley College, along with pupils from two other Bromley Schools. They had the opportunity to take part in hands on practical workshops. In one workshop the pupils were provided with patient histories, laboratory results and X-rays to diagnose patients. On Monday, 18th April 2016 over 70 Darrick Wood pupils collected both bronze and gold awards at the annual Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Ceremony in the Civic Centre, Bromley. This year, Darrick Wood saw the highest pass rate of participants who completed their DofE in the borough. It was also a record number for Darrick Wood School!
