Wizard of Oz – The School Production

Tickets for this year’s production of “The Wizard of Oz” are on sale from today.  They cost £5 for adults and £3 for concessions and can be purchased from pupil reception (before school and at lunch time).  The performance will take place on Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th February at 7.30pm in the Main Hall. We look forward to welcoming you to what will be an outstanding production.

Darrick Wood School in the Performance Tables

The latest performance tables show that Darrick Wood School performed very well again last year. The percentage of students who gained their English and Mathematics GCSE at grade C or above equals the previous School record, and a figure of 82% places the School as the top mixed comprehensive school in Bromley. On Tuesday 17th January 8YM enjoyed a workshop and performance by John and Elisa Harborne as part of their study and performance of Brazilian Music. John grew up in Orpington and rose to fame as one of our most eminent trombonists as a member of the jazz Orchestra ‘Loose Tubes’. Go-Karting Success for Jamie

Congratulations to Jamie Rogers who recently won the PFI Club Championship in the 11-15 age group category. The PFI Club Championship is the second highest league in the UK for Go-Karting and Jamie finished first out of twenty-three entries. Jamie competed in every round and finished on the podium in the majority of races. Such consistent performances saw Jamie win the league outright. We were pleased to welcome Mrs Allen from Hadlow College Floristry department on Tuesday, 17th January to run a lunchtime workshop for up to 20 pupils in Years 9 to 13.  Some lovely carnation buttonholes were created to take home and it was a great opportunity for them to hear about floristry courses and potential careers.  Mrs Allen was one of the original Darrick Wood pupils when the School opened in 1975 and she enjoyed seeing some of her old…

Athletics Success for Darrick Wood School

On Tuesday, 10th January the Year 7 and Year 8 Girls Indoor Athletics team took part in the Bromley Schools Indoor Athletics Championship.  Both year groups competed in a variety of track and field events and came 1st place out of 9 schools.  Although all 14 athletes showed excellent team work and came in the top 3 for the majority of the events, the best performances came from: Year 7 Amarisa Sibley in the speed bounce, standing long jump and sprints.
