Parent Bulletin 12/01/24

This week Assemblies this week have focused on what it means to be a neighbour and in particular a good neighbour. Students also reflected on how technology is changing what we mean by neighbour and bringing people closer together virtually. The example was shared of how the Duolingo app is being used by millions of people worldwide to learn languages and how, by learning another language, we can then develop closer links with others that we might not otherwise have…

Parent Bulletin 13/01/23

This week Assemblies this week have focused on how we relate to our neighbours. This has been considered within different contexts. We reflected on the meaning of the Hindu festival of Makar Sankranti, which takes place this Sunday. We also considered how getting to know our neighbours, always aiming to be kind to others and going out of our way to help them leads to a better life for all. Students were reminded of our School Rule 1: Behave sensibly…

Cologne Christmas Market trip 2017

Cologne Christmas Market trip 2017

On a frosty Thursday evening in the middle of December, thirty-two hardy souls packed themselves into a coach in the school park. Ahead of them lay an arduous trip across four countries with only their portable technology and a tube or two of Pringles for company. This was the annual Christmas market trip and, having just completed their GCSE mocks, Year 11 were looking forward to some well-earned R&R in the beautiful setting of the city of Cologne. Not long after dawn…

US Ambassador visits Darrick Wood School

Darrick Wood School was fortunate to have the opportunity to host a visit from the US ambassador to the UK, Mr Matthew Barzun, on September 26th. The ambassador’s motorcade swept up the school drive and out stepped the United State’s top diplomat in the UK accompanied by a phalanx of burly security men that did look like they meant business. Mr Barzun was speaking to a large audience of sixth formers and his engaging personality and relaxed style soon won…
