Assembly round-upLast week’s assemblies started with a performance from students from our Deaf centre. Their version of ‘This is Me’ from The Greatest Showman was truly amazing. This week Assemblies started with a performance from the Jazz Band. They were brilliant. We then focused on this week’s theme of People are Different. This theme allowed everyone to consider how when we look at things (e.g. a painting) people can notice different things, even though they are looking at the same thing. They shared their review of the Tour and encouraged others to go on the Tour next year. They all spoke with clarity and were excellent ambassadors for school sport. This week Assemblies in this first week of the summer term were themed around life being a journey. Life can be more enriching and enjoyable when we challenge ourselves do different things. We looked at the extreme challenges overcome by Jasmin Paris (first woman to complete the Barkley Marathons in USA) and Russ Cook, who recently completed a run from the south of Africa to the north (10,000miles!). This week Assemblies this week have focused on what it means to be a neighbour and in particular a good neighbour. Students also reflected on how technology is changing what we mean by neighbour and bringing people closer together virtually. End of autumn term As we reach the end of this first term we have been looking back over the term and reflecting on our students’ many successes and achievements. This week We have held Remembrance assemblies all week with all year groups. These included speeches from two of our fabulous History Ambassadors who talked about the origins of the poppy as a symbol of remembrance and the famous poem, “In Flanders Fields”, by John McCrae.
