DWS Audio is delighted to announce that our recent audio drama serial ‘Enquiry Agents’ was included in the World Showcase at this year’s UK International Audio Drama Festival. During the February half-term break, the Drama Department ran the biannual Drama Tour to Paris. Thank you to all the staff involved for making this trip possible and for all giving up their time to take 50 students on this excursion packed trip. Students at Darrick Wood School delivered an exceptional performance of Brain Play last night, demonstrating remarkable focus, energy, and stage presence. With over 45 minutes on stage and little to no opportunity to step off, the entire cast rose to the challenge with professionalism and confidence. Last week students in Year 9 were treated to a performance from Wizard Theatre Company who performed the text ‘I love you mum, I promise I won’t die.’ This is a play written for the Daniel Spargo Mabbs Foundation about a boy from Croydon who took MDMA on a night out with friends and sadly passed away. On Friday, 31st January 2025, DWS Dance Company attended the London Youth Games Dance Competition at Langley Park Centre for Performing Arts. There were schools from across the borough competing in either the KS3 or KS4/mixed competition. Darrick Wood performed a piece called ‘The Fallen.’ The dance explores a group of young soldiers as they journey through the physical challenge and depths of the trenches. This week we were treated to four performances of this year’s School Production – ‘The Little Mermaid.’ On Tuesday, we had Years 5 and 6 from Darrick Wood Junior School come and watch a matinee performance. They were all very excited before, and even more excited afterwards! They had an amazing time and were very complementary of our cast. This week Assemblies started with a fantastic performance by two talented Year 10 students, Anthony and Alex, who entertained with an extract from their play written and recorded for DWS Audio. This was a mixture of pre-recorded and live action and was a great way to start the day. Assembly round-upLast week’s assemblies started with a performance from students from our Deaf centre. Their version of ‘This is Me’ from The Greatest Showman was truly amazing. This week Assemblies started with a performance from the Jazz Band. They were brilliant. We then focused on this week’s theme of People are Different. This theme allowed everyone to consider how when we look at things (e.g. a painting) people can notice different things, even though they are looking at the same thing.
