UK International Radio Drama Festival 2019

DWS Audio is proud to announce that two of our audio plays have been included in the UK International Radio Drama Festival 2019. One of Our Exercise Books is Missing and Free Fall will be showcased on Thursday 21st March at Café Nero in Canterbury, the venue for this year’s festival. The plays will also be available online via the radio drama festival website, where you can listen and vote for your favourite play. Mr Chappell

National Poetry Day

For National Poetry Day this year, Ms Tibbs hosted a ‘Poetry Breakfast’. Students were encouraged to bring a poem along; one that they love or had written themselves. Students and staff shared the poetry aloud whist quaffing croissants, coffee and other breakfast goodies. “It’s all for you” – Othello Re-imagined

On Wednesday 19th April, ten Year 13 students studying A2 Literature visited the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse Theatre for a production of set text, Shakespeare’s Othello. As befitting Shakespearean Tragedy, the performance was not without controversy. The setting, part of the superb Globe Theatre complex, was highly authentic; the entire performance in this very small and intense theatrical space was lit only by candles, as it would have been in Jacobean times when Othello was first performed. Neal Zetter, Comic Poet, visits Darrick Wood School

On Tuesday April 25th a group of 24 pupils from years 7, 8 and 9 were chosen to take part in a workshop alongside Neal Zetter, a comic performance poet. The poetry sessions were designed to boost confidence in pupils who had already shown an interest in poetry and English and to give them further insight into creating and performing poetry.
