Our English Department manages the School’s entries into the annual Poetry By Heart (PBH) National Competition which has featured in prior newsletters. The most recent PBH newsletter featured our Year 7 Portable Paradise Project, which tasked students with creating their own paradise in physical, not just poetic, form in response to a poem in our anthology. Sixth Form Reading Mentors

Our fantastic Sixth Form Reading volunteers have started reading with Year 7 students this week. They had a training session with Mrs Millar last week – thinking about how reading works (it’s complicated!) and how to share their own love and enthusiasm for reading. Selected Year 7 students will have a 1:1 reading session in the Reading Realm, supervised by our Reading Coordinator Ms Jacobs over the year. We have got off to a fantastic start with 7XB and 7XF….

UK International Radio Drama Festival 2019

UK International Radio Drama Festival 2019

DWS Audio is proud to announce that two of our audio plays have been included in the UK International Radio Drama Festival 2019. One of Our Exercise Books is Missing and Free Fall will be showcased on Thursday 21st March at Café Nero in Canterbury, the venue for this year’s festival. The plays will also be available online via the radio drama festival website, where you can listen and vote for your favourite play. Mr Chappell

National Poetry Day

National Poetry Day

For National Poetry Day this year, Ms Tibbs hosted a ‘Poetry Breakfast’. Students were encouraged to bring a poem along; one that they love or had written themselves. Students and staff shared the poetry aloud whist quaffing croissants, coffee and other breakfast goodies.
