Assembly round-upLast week’s assemblies started with a performance from students from our Deaf centre. Their version of ‘This is Me’ from The Greatest Showman was truly amazing. Thank you to Maryam, Evie-May, Asma and Stanley. The assembly’s theme was Money Matters. Students were given a quick history of money and how its value changes over time. This week Assemblies this week started with a presentation by Isabella, Isobel, Rosalind, Hannah and Lizzie who all went on the recent Netball Tour. They shared their review of the Tour and encouraged others to go on the Tour next year. They all spoke with clarity and were excellent ambassadors for school sport. This week We are very grateful to Alex and Annie who spoke with clarity and confidence on behalf of the Sports Council at the start of assemblies this week. Extra-curricular sport is going from strength to strength at Darrick Wood School and members of the Sports Council have been responsible, with staff, in raising its profile and promoting the benefits of being involved in school sport. This week With the focus in this week’s assemblies on freedom, we were delighted to hear from Sixth Form students Roshni and George talk about Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous speech and Martin Luther King Jr. Day in the USA. MLK Day is a public holiday, or better expressed as a national day of service where volunteering and helping others is encouraged. Autumn term – reflections on the term so far We started this year with assemblies that emphasised the special community that exists in a school and our school in particular.
