On Wednesday 19th April, ten Year 13 students studying A2 Literature visited the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse Theatre for a production of set text, Shakespeare’s Othello. As befitting Shakespearean Tragedy, the performance was not without controversy. Neal Zetter, Comic Poet, visits Darrick Wood School

On Tuesday April 25th a group of 24 pupils from years 7, 8 and 9 were chosen to take part in a workshop alongside Neal Zetter, a comic performance poet. The poetry sessions were designed to boost confidence in pupils who had already shown an interest in poetry and English and to give them further insight into creating and performing poetry. Darrick Wood School has been nationally recognised for its exceptional 2016 performance by the School, Students and Teachers network (SSAT). Educational Outcomes data analysis from SSAT has shown that the school is in the top 10% of non-selective schools nationally for attainment. Every year several of the Bromley secondary schools join together to compete in a Key Stage Three Art Competition, that focuses on the talent of Bromley’s 11 to 14 year olds budding artists. Congratulation to our Y8 scientists, who did brilliantly in the annual Salters’ Chemistry Festival.  Our budding young chemists were up against some stiff competition from 25 other schools from in and around London (a mixture of independent, grammar, academy and comprehensive schools). Both our Year 7 boys and Year 8 girls were successful in reaching the finals of the London Youth Games Sports Hall Athletics at Crystal Palace, representing Bromley and South London.
