New Year 7 students On Wednesday, 5th July we welcomed parents of our new Year 7 students starting at Darrick Wood in September. We shared as much information as possible about the School to help support a successful transition to secondary school. The day before we were delighted to see so the children themselves and encouraged them to enjoy their last two weeks of primary school but to look forward with excitement about the opportunities we offer them in September….

Empowerment Conference On Tuesday 12th July, Mrs Keaney and Mr Read accompanied Darrick Wood students from Years 7-12 to the first annual Empowerment Conference hosted by Langley Park School for Girls. This week Assemblies this week focused on a theme that many parents/carers might relate to – money and the cost of bringing up a child. Whilst the real message was that children are priceless to their parents, students were asked to appreciate what parents/carers do for them, what they sacrifice and research that indicates it can cost around £200,000 to bring up a child from 0 to 18. School production of Grease There were moments in the last few months where we really did not know if this year’s production of Grease could go ahead. On three nights this week, however, students and staff achieved something that will surely last in their memories for ever. Staff and students at Darrick Wood School in Orpington are celebrating after winning an international radio drama award for one of their extra-curricular media projects. In January 2018 the school set up an audio blog to post weekly content including audio plays, short stories, original music and podcasts recorded by its pupils.
