This week Our virtual assembly this week was focused on Stephen Lawrence Day and students were invited to learn about both the racially motivated murder of Stephen and subsequent outcomes following the public enquiry and media attention.  Students learnt about the significance of Stephen Lawrence Day as a legacy for change and a range of additional resources have been shared with Form Tutors to explore Stephen Lawrence Day with students in even greater depth. You may wish to explore Stephen…

This week Despite the cold starts to the mornings, the summer term is very much underway and it has been great to welcome all students and staff back. We hope everyone had an enjoyable and relaxing Easter break. I was very grateful that so many continued to undertake the LFD testing at home. Tutors will continue to provide new test kits as required. We have been informed that this testing looks set to continue over the weeks ahead. This week…

This week We have been very pleased with the way the majority of Darrick Wood students have returned to classroom learning and the way they have conducted themselves around school. As we approach the end of term teachers are very busy working on plans to inform the grades for Years 11 and 13 this summer, but at the same time we know each and every child needs our full attention and as ever we will do our very best to…

This week We have finally finished the LFD testing at school and home testing kits have now been distributed. If your child did not bring one home please tell them to let their tutor know and we will make arrangements. As mentioned in last week’s Bulletin, the testing at school was a massive undertaking but very much part of the strategies needed to re-open schools and in that respect has therefore been very successful. Overall, since 5th March 4637 tests…

World Kitchen in Collaboration with Waste Week – 15.03.21

In collaboration with Waste Week, the second instalment of World Kitchen will focus on creating dishes from unwanted food items and leftovers. We’re asking you to look in your fridge and create a dish from food that will otherwise be thrown away. What a great way to get creative, save money and help the environment! Please send through photos and descriptions of your dishes to the World Kitchen email address (worldkitchen@darrickwood.bromley.sch.uk). Better still, as part of the National Waste Week…

Waste Week 2021

Waste Week 2021

Did you know that in the UK we throw away approximately 20 million slices of bread every day which creates greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to over 140,000 cars every year? Or that every year, 36,500 cows are producing milk that we just throw down the drain? Or that on average, a UK family could save £720 per year if they stopped throwing their food in the bin? These are just a few reasons why we have decided to take part…

Return of all students What a joy it has been to finally have all students back in school and in lessons today after a week of testing and phased return. I walked around much of the School this morning and was very impressed by how everyone was settling into lessons and seemingly (mostly) happy to be back! I have also been very pleased with the way students have adapted to the current COVID-19 safety guidance including the wearing of masks…

World Book Day – Thursday, 4th March We are grateful to Mrs Millar who arranged some brilliant ways to celebrate World Book Day on Thursday, even though most students are not in school. Students had the opportunity to take part in a game where they viewed piles of books or books on a shelf (‘shelfies’) and tried to work out which teachers they belonged to. It was a fascinating insight into teachers’ reading habits. Here’s one for parents to guess….

Wellbeing Wednesday

Wellbeing Wednesday

Thank you for your lovely feedback about Wellbeing Wednesday. It was so lovely to hear about the enjoyment both students and their families had when taking part in Wellbeing Wednesday. We recognise the importance of our students having hobbies and interests outside of the School curriculum and we are so proud of the well-rounded individuals so many of our students are becoming.   So, here are just a few examples of what our students got up to for Wellbeing Wednesday……

Parent Bulletin 12/02/21

This week and this term so far Well done to all our students, their parents and all our staff for reaching the half-term break during this latest lockdown period. Last week I singled out our staff for their efforts, in particular with getting to grips with completely new ways of teaching and learning in such a short period of time. This week though I want to congratulate our students and thank you, their parents and carers. Our records indicate that…
