This week<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In assemblies this\nweek we considered why we should seize every opportunity in life. The amazing\nstory of 80 year old Julia Albu and her 9000 mile journey from South Africa to\nLondon in her 20 year old Toyota was used to illustrate this point perfectly. Her\none year journey made the news at the time and those wanting to know more can\nfind lots of information about it by searching for Julia Albu on the internet\n(e.g. http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/travel\/story\/20180718-from-africa-to-tea-with-the-queen<\/a>).\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 11 have now\ncompleted their mock examinations and regardless of the outcome we would like\nto say well done to them for their conduct and effort in completing this\nintense period of examinations. Their mock results will be given to them on the\nafternoon of Monday, 6th January. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coming up<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Friday, 13th December we will be encouraging students and staff to take part in the national Christmas jumper day in support of Save the Children. Our usual uniform\/dress code may be altered with a Christmas jumper or one item which is Christmas themed or coloured ). There is not an expectation for students to unnecessarily purchase new jumpers – an item such as a green or red jumper or shirt they already own, or a Christmas tie would be allowed instead. They could swap their old Christmas jumper with a friend or they could decorate a jumper to be Christmas themed. Students will pay \u00a31, all of which will go to Save the Children. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the last day of\nterm we will again be raising money for charity. Form Charity Reps will decide\nwhich charity over the coming days). This will be through a non-uniform day. If\nstudents do not want to take part, that is fine, but all are welcome to contribute\n\u00a31 or more to the students’ chosen charity. \nThe school day will be altered as usual at the end of the autumn term.\nSchool will start at the normal time of 8.35. Students in Years 11 and Sixth\nForm will finish from midday and other year groups will finish from 1pm onwards\nonce their Achievement Coordinators are happy that their rooms are tidy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our annual Carol Service will once again be held at\nSt. Paul’s Church, Crofton on Tuesday, 17th December at 7.30pm. The PSFA will\nbe providing mince pies and mulled wine. Our Carol Service is always a\nwonderful way to get into the Christmas spirit. Our choirs and musicians\nprovide a high quality mix of carols and other festive pieces whilst our\nreaders outline the Christmas story. Parents, students and friends of the\nSchool are all very welcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8YD are organising a food bank collection. Please see below for more information. There is also a ‘reverse advent calendar’ that could be used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We hope many students will be able to help make a real success of this initiative. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reminders and help required<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We would appreciate\nyour support in reinforcing with our students that our behaviour policy, school\nrules and uniform\/dress code expectations remain in force to and from school\nand not just whilst in school. Whilst we regularly receive exellent reports from\nmembers of the public where students from Darrick Wood have been behaving\nbrilliantly and in line with our values, supporting members of the local\ncommunity where needed, we have also unfortunately had to speak to a minority\nabout our expecations when in school uniform to and from school. Thank you for\nyour help with this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We politely remind parents\/carers not to use the entrance to the School’s driveway as a turning area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having published the\ndecision to once again have a two week half term break in the autumn term,\nplease find below the full term dates for the next academic year:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Autumn term<\/strong> \u2013 Wednesday, 2nd September 2020 to\nFriday, 18th December 2020 (half term break 19th October to 30th October)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wednesday, 2nd\nSeptember – Professional Development Day. Only staff attend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thursday, 3rd\nSeptember – Years 7 and Sixth Form. Friday, 4th September \u2013 All year groups\nattend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spring term<\/strong> \u2013 Monday, 4th January 2021 to\nThursday, 1st<\/sup> April 2021 (half term\nbreak 15th February to 19th February)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
