Sports Awards<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our annual Sports\nAwards evening enabled us to recognise the achievements of our students across\na range of sports through the year. After giving out the awards, our Guest of\nHonour, England Sevens player Femi Sofolarin, shared his inspiring journey through\nmultiple sports before finally focusing and excelling in rugby. The evening\nended with refreshments made by pupils from the Food Technology Department who\ndemonstrated excellent hospitality skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Training Teachers for 25 years<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Monday, the\nlatest graduation ceremony for trainee teachers was held by the Bromley\nSchools’ Collegiate. It is excellent to see there are high quality teachers\nbeing employed across Bromley’s schools over the years ahead at a time when\nnationally there is a teacher shortage. On Wednesday, Dr Airey and other staff\njoined colleagues from many schools and those recently retired to celebrate 25\nyears of the Collegiate. One aspect of being a Teaching School is that we help\ntrain teachers. We do this through the Bromley Schools’ Collegiate. Anyone\nthinking of training to be a teacher should look no further than contacting us\nto discuss the different routes and we can help guide them to school-based\ntraining offered through the Bromley Schools’ Collegiate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nanya School, China<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Monday we will\nbe joined by 27 students and 3 staff from Nanya School in China. This will be\nthe School’s third visit to Darrick Wood. Parents\/Carers may recall that at\nEaster a small group of students and staff from Darrick Wood travelled to Nanya\nand we are very much looking forward to welcoming them back to our school to\nattend our lessons and get an idea of how education works in the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the visit at\nEaster they presented us with numerous gifts including this wonderful painting\nwhich has now been framed and placed in our new Dining Hall just in time for\ntheir return visit. We have further plans to improve the decoration in the\nDining Hall but this is certainly a stand out feature and far better than the\nplain walls we have had until now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

English Schools Athletics Championships<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have just heard that Benjamin Platt (Year 9) who was selected for Kent in the English Schools Athletics Championships today won the Silver Medal, equalling his lifetime best of 3.50m. He very narrowly missed 3.60m \u2013 having fractionally cleared the bar, the strong tail-wind blew the pole back onto the bar, knocking it off a couple of seconds after the clearance! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also hear that former student Will Fuller is this weekend competing for Great Britain in the Under-23 European Athletics Championships 5000m. The event is being shown on Europsport and live on https:\/\/athletics.eurovisionsports.tv\/event\/30\/european-athletics-u23-championships-gavle\/calendar\/2<\/a> – 7pm, Saturday (UK time).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Monday, 15th July to\nFriday, 19th July – students and staff from Nanya School, China visiting\nDarrick Wood<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tuesday, 16th July –\nSports Day at Norman Park for Years 7, 8 and 9<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Friday, 19th July –\nlast day of term. Non-uniform day. Early finish. Year 12 will register and then\nbe dismissed from 12.15pm. Years 7 to 10 will have lunch and then be registered\nand dismissed from 1.00pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Autumn term\nstarts on Tuesday, 3rd<\/sup> September\n2019 for Year 7 and Year 12 and all students return on Wednesday, 4th<\/sup> September 2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
