MLK Day is a public holiday, or better expressed as a national day of service where volunteering and helping others is encouraged. The assembly moved on to the democratic process, that there are over 50 national elections across the world in 2024 and shared how polling stations in the UK are arranged to ensure all have access to vote. Sixth Form students turning 18 this year were encouraged to ensure they are placed on the electoral roll, especially in light of data which indicates that the age group 18-24 is the least likely to vote in the UK.

Early finish on Thursday, 8th February

To facilitate the annual cross-borough CPD event hosted by the Bromley Schools’ Collegiate, students will finish earlier on Thursday, 8th February. They will complete lessons 1 to 4 although lesson 4 will finish 10 minutes earlier. The Sixth Form will then be able to leave. Years 7 to 11 will remain for lunch which will finish at 1.50pm. We will then have registration and students will leave from 2pm.

Catering

We have noted a significant improvement in all aspects of the catering offer but are continuing to listen to and act on feedback. By the end of the week we had hardly any cards failing at the tills, most students’ Parent Pay accounts were positive, the queues were moving more quickly and the food quality and quantity appeared better. A sample of main meals from the week is presented below (these are photos taken at random by the Head Teacher of students’ meals after they had come through the tills. We will of course continue to monitor all aspects of the service and look to improve the offer further.

Reminder: Please ensure you check your child’s Parent Pay account regularly and top it up as required. Now the technological issues have been resolved, we are unable to put transactions through the tills that cannot be paid for.

PFSA Update

Dear parents and carers

The PFSA committee meeting was held last week and it was great to see some new faces come along to join us. We welcomed Susann onto the Committee as our new secretary and Renia as a new committee member. Thanks to them both for getting involved. We also now have 33 people on our happy to help list, which is amazing and will be a great help to our fundraising efforts. You can sign up here at any time: Happy to help sign up.

Our aim this year is to raise funds for the school to invest in the outdoor areas where the children spend break time. This is quite a big project, encompassing many elements including shade/shelter for the playgrounds and recycling facilities. We will let you know more soon, so please support our fundraising efforts in whatever way you can. We have raised over £4,000 since September but we hope it can be more if we all pull together.

Pre-loved Uniform Sale, Saturday 20th January 2024, 10-11am

Our next PFSA event is our popular preloved uniform sale where we sell a range of good condition pre-loved uniform at hugely reduced prices. Please come along to the Dining Hall to pick up a bargain, all the proceeds raised go directly to the PFSA and are for the benefit of the School.

As always, we need volunteers to run this event. We’ve already set up on Friday, but we would also appreciate help with the sale itself from 9.30am to 11.30am. Please help us run a smooth sale and help combat the queues by signing up to help here: Uniform sale volunteer sign up sheet.

We would like to ask for any donations of unwanted, good quality gifts or items that would be suitable for raffles we intend to hold at our upcoming events this year. This could be anything from a bottle of wine, a box of chocolates or even donated tickets to an event if anyone is lucky enough to have such links! Any unwanted baskets or similar would also be much appreciated so we can make up raffle prizes from our donations.

Please mark your donation FAO PSFA and drop into Reception. Any donations large or small would be very much appreciated.

Thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing at one of our events soon!

Save the date….

Lastly, we are in the early stages of planning our first adult social of the year on Friday 15th March. This is a great opportunity to get together with friends, relax and be part of the fabulous community we have at the school. Details to follow soon.

Hoping you all have a lovely weekend,

Joanne PFSA Chair

Dates for the diary

Date

Event

Notes

Saturday, 20th January

PSFA uniform sale

10-11am – Dining Hall

Thursday, 25th January

Year 7 Parents’ Evening

SchoolCloud

Thursday, 1st February

Year 8 Parents’ Information Evening

6.30-7.30pm at the School

Thursday, 8th February

Early close for Collegiate CPD for staff

1.10pm for Sixth Form
2pm for Years 7-11

12th – 16th February

HALF TERM

Thursday, 29th February

Year 10 Parents’ Evening

SchoolCloud

Wednesday, 6th March

Year 9 Options Evening

At the School

Wednesday, 27th March

Year 8 Parents’ Evening

SchoolCloud

Thursday, 28th March

Last day of spring term (Friday is a Bank Holiday)

This week With the focus in this week’s assemblies on freedom, we were delighted to hear from Sixth Form students Roshni and George talk about Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous speech and Martin Luther King Jr. Day in the USA.
