We encouraged students to support each other to live by our values of Respect, Responsibility and Honesty. There have been so many examples of this so far this year, from charity fund raising (e.g. Jeans for Genes Day), to the Year 7 team building days, our fantastic Open Evening guides and subject ambassadors and all the brilliant ideas our students have been providing to improve their outdoor spaces. Add to that the thought provoking student led assemblies, increasing participation in extra-curricular activities and our many sporting successes we can feel very proud of everything being achieved by our students and staff. Thank you to our parents and carers for their ongoing support. We have been prioritising further work on our curriculum – what we teach and how we teach it, aiming to ensure it is inclusive and promoting diversity and equality. This will be a continual process and our students’ Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Society will be heavily involved whilst also planning a Culture Day later this year. We continue to use Teams as the way to share resources with students and to set home work. We are currently trialling a parent Teams application which we hope to launch next term. We think this will help parents keep in touch with their child’s learning even more.

Curriculum Showcase Pilot

https://news.darrickwood.co.uk/?p=2069

We are piloting a new initiative this term, and would welcome your feedback. Please email the Office for the attention of Mr Eynon with any feedback please.

We would like to share with you our parents and carers a small selection of the wonderful work that students at Darrick Wood School have completed this half-term. Open Evening this year was a resounding success, and students who represented the School, both on the evening and through display of their work, were complimented by our visitors for their fantastic approach to school life.

The photos are taken from the work on display during the Open Evening. This is just a snapshot of the work that students have completed this half-term, and we know that students have completed so much wonderful work across the School throughout this half-term. We are already looking forward to compiling our next Curriculum Showcase for November and December 2023!

Flying the flag for Spain

During the week leading up to the half-term break the flag of Spain was flying. Following a slick move from Roebucks’ backs who sliced through our defence far more easily than they should have done, trailing 14-7 just a couple of minutes after holding a lead. Another try each and going into half time a score of 19-12 meant we were still very much in the game. The second half was a lot less close however and the final score ended up as 38-17. We had we’d given a great showing, perhaps undone a little by the size differential, and exhausted by the amount of tackling of huge front row forwards that had dominated the second half. We go into the half term break looking forward to the hope of more matches after half term, building towards a show down with Wilmington at the start of December.

Reminders

Please remember that we set high standards in all that we do and that includes uniform.
