This week<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Darrick Wood School’s main assemblies are designed principally around a Theme of the Week. This is mapped out for  the entire year and supports our Personal Develop Curriculum and particularly students’ Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural<\/a> development. Tutors will often follow-up on the theme in form time to allow further discussion and in depth consideration of the issues raised. This week’s assemblies provided students with the opportunity to reflect not only on school rules and why they are important, but also on the rules\/laws that determine how we behave in wider society. An overarching theme, led by the Head Teacher in the first assemblies last week was around the importance of recognising our role in each community in which we live and how we can contribute to the community in positive ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next week we move on to consider the reliance of the entire world on food and agriculture and how this can be affected natural disasters and human impacts on the planet. We will celebrate the traditional Harvest Festival, but also reflect on what happens when this fails.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Linked to this the Student Leadership Council is arranging a collection for Bromley Borough Foodbank. The Foodbank has asked Darrick Wood to collect instant coffee and tinned vegetables<\/strong>. If you can spare a jar or tin, please could you send it in to school from next week until the end of September. All donations should be taken to form rooms. However, if your child\u2019s form room is in a science laboratory, donations need to be delivered directly to the Sixth Form Centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In assemblies next week we are also planning to award badges to our new Subject Ambassadors<\/strong>. These were selected last term but will now be identifiable through their badge as they begin their ambassador roles. They will be the face of the subject and help with lots of activities within it, working closely with staff and the Head of Department. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thank you to the many parents\/carers who attended the Year 12 Parents’ Information Evening on Thursday. We hope the evening was useful. Evenings for Year 7 and 11 are also planned over the next few weeks. Dates below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DWS Life Learning Skills – poster competition<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thank you for all the entries into the poster competition for our Darrick Wood School Life Skills.  A big congratulations to Kate in Year 13 for the winning entry.  The bright and colourful design brings to life our Life skills and demonstrates how important these skills are in creating well rounded students while they are at the School with us. This poster will now be used on our website, screens and Form Boards.<\/p>\n\n\n
