We wish all our students, parents/carers, staff and all involved in our school community an enjoyable summer and look forward to another successful year from September.

Achievement Assemblies

For the past week students have been awarded Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum certificates depending on the number of positive points they have received this year. We have also awarded subject certificates and Head Teacher’s Awards. Congratulations to all who have received a certificate. We look forward to giving out even more next year!

Charity Fundraiser for St Christopher’s

9YM held their charity fundraiser to benefit St Christopher’s Hospice on Wednesday at lunchtime. Members of 9YM donated cakes, biscuits, cupcakes and other treats which sold rapidly to Years 7-10. The few treats left quickly sold after school. A total of £63 was raised for this amazing local charity – not bad for a cashless school. A special thank-you to Miss Romanato who gave up her lunch to help out at the sale table. Well done all!

Our overall fundraising for the year has now surpassed £6000. This is an amazing total and all involved should be congratulated on raising money for so many worthy causes.

DWS Life Learning Skills

We are busy launching our DWS Life Learning Skills with the students and the expectations we have on our young people both inside and outside of school as part of their personal development. There is a competition running over the summer holiday to design a school poster which will be used on the website, our screens and on tutor boards. Please encourage your child to take part in this. The details are below.

Year 12 Work Experience

Year 12 students have immersed themselves in the world of work at work experience placements this week. Staff have visited the majority of students at their placements or contacted them by telephone/MS Teams and have been impressed by their professionalism. Students have shared with staff that the opportunity has helped with their post-18 decision making. Feedback from employers has also been excellent with many students being offered further opportunities of work experience, part-time work or apprenticeships.

We also ran an alternative to work experience programme in school this week for a small group of Year 12 students. Guest speakers from ASK Apprenticeships, Project Trust Gap Years, University of Greenwich and the Department for Work and Pensions led sessions for our students which focussed on employability skills and post-18 pathways to help them with their next steps.

Year 10 Work Shadowing Day and Employability Day

On Tuesday, our Year 10 students either participated in a Work Shadowing Day where they accompanied a parent/carer or nominated adult to their place of work or an Employability Day, led by the Bromley Education Business Partnership (BEBP).

Students participating in the Work Shadowing Day were provided with a booklet to complete on the day and we have enjoyed listening to their stories of the world of work and reading feedback from organisations.

Students attending school for our Employability Day met with 22 volunteers from local businesses, large and small, across a wide range of industries. The purpose of the session was to help prepare our pupils for their future pathways by introducing them to some of the employment, apprenticeships and training options available to them, post-16. Students were able to have various discussions with employers which enabled them to consider their own pathways. The feedback from the BEBP and the Employers about how well the pupils engaged was really positive and it was fantastic to see all of our pupils interacting so well with our visitors.

It is hoped that both of these interactions will ensure that students start to think about their options over the summer holidays ahead of the Autumn term which is a crucial term for students to make applications to post-16 pathways.

Arts Awards Bronze

We are thrilled to announce that 152 Year 9 students passed their Arts Award Bronze this week which is a Level 1 Qualification. They have been working on these both inside and outside of Drama lessons and were then sent off to be examined. The examiner was very positive about the level of work and the amount of students from our school who were entered. Certificates will be given out in September but a huge congratulations to all of those who passed this award. This is a great achievement and excellent for Personal Development.

Student Subject Ambassadors

Over the last few weeks students have been applying to become Subject Ambassadors for the next academic year. These would be the face of the subject, help at events, clubs and generally around the department and help to promote the subject across the School. They had to write a 500 word application to the Head of Department why they should be considered and we were thrilled with the number of students who did this. We are pleased to say we now have our ambassadors for the next academic year. Badges will be given out at the start of the term. What a great achievement and way to encourage Personal Development.

Mrs R Iddiols-Bunclark

PSFA

Early notice that the PSFA are planning a second hand uniform sale on Saturday, 23rd September 2023, 10-11am.

Also parents/carers are welcome to come along to the PSFA AGM which will be held at the School at 7pm on 26th September. Our current Chair is standing down after three fantastic years so we will be looking for someone to take over the excellent achievements of Mrs McGrath, supported by a dedicated group of volunteer parents and staff. If you are interested in being involved please contact the PSFA (details on the school website). This is also an excellent opportunity to say thank you to all involved in PSFA activities. However you have helped, it has made the difference as the PSFA has announced that a donation will be given to the School for £12,000. This is from activities over the past year. This is a huge increase on previous years and will be used to continue to develop and improve our outdoor spaces for all our students.

The recent Quiz Night was a tremendous success, raising over £1000 for the School. Our thanks to Mrs McCarthy and all involved in organising. Please see the separate email sent with more details. We are already planning the next Quiz Night and will let everyone know more as soon as we can.

Dates for the diary

Thursday, 17th August 2023 – A level results day

Thursday, 24th August 2023 – GCSE results day

Friday, 31st August 2023 – PDD1 – only staff attend school

Monday, 4th September 2023 – Year 7 and 12 attend school

Tuesday, 5th September 2023 – All students attend

Welcome to the final Parent Bulletin of this academic year.
