{"id":170,"date":"2017-03-16T12:51:41","date_gmt":"2017-03-16T12:51:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.darrickwood.co.uk\/?p=170"},"modified":"2017-03-16T12:51:41","modified_gmt":"2017-03-16T12:51:41","slug":"maths-challenge-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.darrickwood.co.uk\/?p=170","title":{"rendered":"Maths Challenge Competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">On Wednesday 22<sup><span style=\"font-size: small;\">nd<\/span><\/sup> February, a small group of us participated in the Maths Challenge at St Olaves School.\u00a0 Myself (Daniel Haughey), Alfie Barnes, Evie Brett and Imogen Edmundson made up the team representing Darrick Wood School.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">With over 30 schools competing, the day was packed with brain teasing challenges, including a mathematical crossword and a relay! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">The day began with a short briefing, followed by the first challenge.\u00a0 This consisted of 20 exam-style questions, designed to stretch our brain and give you a taster of what was to come.\u00a0 We found this especially difficult.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">Afterwards we had to split into\u00a0two groups of\u00a0two and complete a crossword based on maths questions.\u00a0 But the catch was, one pair had the across clues and the other had the down clues.\u00a0 So, without conferring, we had to work out our own answers and use the other pairs answers to complete the crossword.\u00a0 This required great team work and communication skills.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">After lunch, we completed the final task \u2013 the relay.\u00a0 Staying in our pairs, we were given a question ranging in difficulty, which you had to answer and give back to your teacher.\u00a0 If it was correct, they would have to run and give to your other pair who were on the other side of the hall.\u00a0 It got very tense and everyone was running as fast as they could to beat the other teams.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">It was a challenging yet fantastic day, and Darrick Wood came 24<sup><span style=\"font-size: small;\">th<\/span><\/sup>, which was very good considering we were mainly competing with grammar schools.\u00a0 We all found it extremely fun to participate in, and would recommend it to any students, if given the opportunity next year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">Written by Daniel Haughey, 9YD<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Wednesday 22nd February, a small group of us participated in the Maths Challenge at St Olaves School.\u00a0 Myself (Daniel Haughey), Alfie Barnes, Evie Brett and Imogen Edmundson made up the team representing Darrick Wood School.
